Hunting

Our hunting safaris in South Africa are carefully planned and well organized by experienced professional hunters supervised by an extremely capable and well-equipped outfitter.

Our rain season usually varies between November and March. The summers are very warm while the remainder of April until September are cooler. The ideal and most popular time of the year for hunting is between April and September. For the more adventurous and robust, we offer all year hunting. If you do not mind the heat or the rain, we can accommodate you at any time of the year.

Rifle Hunting
Tangara is situated in the magnificent Waterberg mountain range of Limpopo in South Africa. Game is in abundance on the reserve and our safari camp has luxurious, fully catered accomodation for 20 hunters and/or non-hunters. We recommend 7mm or bigger for plains game and .375 or bigger for any of the larger animals. Rounds of ammunition will depend on the duration of the safari and the number of animals that you want to hunt. Fifty rounds per rifle should be a good average.

A temporary import/export permit for your rifles will be issued on arrival at Johannesburg International Airport, please see the website of the Professional Hunters' Association of South Africa for more details.

Bow Hunting
The base hunting area is dedicated solely to bow hunting. We offer bow hunting safaris for all of the plains game species on our price list. A minimum draw weight of 50lbs is required for plains game hunting. It is however recommended to use a bow of 60lbs to 80lbs.

We have a mixture of pit blinds and elevated tree blinds. They are very roomy inside, usually about 8' X 8'. You shoot through vertical slats in the front of the blind. These blinds are very dark inside so you are very concealed.

For plains game hunting, you should bring your normal big game set up you would use for white tail or any other type deer. You don't need to buy a special 80 lb bow set up just to shoot plains game. The most important aspect of your hunt will be that you are very familiar and extremely proficient with shooting the bow that you bring.

Taxidermist
If you prefer to make use of your own taxidermist we will take care of the dipping, packing and shipping of your trophies, according to your specifications. The necessary regulations will still be applicable. You also have the option to have your trophies mounted and shipped locally.

We are currently making use of Kololo Taxidermy in Mookgophong who are known for the high quality of their work. The taxidermist will take care of all the necessary arrangements (customs clearing, shipping and permits required for the export process). Please allow six to eight months for the mounting process to be completed.
